Diagramm Halbach complies with the stringent requirements imposed by transfusion medicine by using certified materials. These are not only safe to use with food, but have been explicitly approved for the labelling of blood bags (ISEGA certificate in accordance with ISO 3826-1). This establishes the used label material's suitability for this purpose and eliminates the possibility of any adhesive constituents migrating into the blood bag, for example. Food safety alone is not enough. That is certified safety.

Other precious constituents are obtained from banked human blood. It goes without saying that these are given identification labels that refer to the main blood bottle. Two-layer label materials are used for this, which enable easy removal of such secondary labels. This feature can also be implemented as a much more cost-effective single-layer label solution if the right material is used in conjunction with sophisticated kiss-cutting technology. Singularly clever in the literal sense as well. Secondary labels are also available separately, of course, in case on-demand printing is required, e.g. after scanning the banked blood. The label material is really put to the test when used to label blood bags (applied directly or indirectly) and printed with different printing systems. Diagramm Halbach has certified materials for all of the usual systems at its disposal. The most prevalent printing techniques are direct thermal printing and thermal transfer printing of self-adhesive labels on rolls. Sheet laser printers present more of a challenge. After all, the material not only has to withstand cold storage conditions, but also temperatures of up to 200 °C in the laser printer. It must be a very special type of material. Having extracted the required constituent substances from the blood, these must be marked in such a way as to indicate their origin (refer to the primary label on the bottle from which they were taken), especially as the specified storage conditions vary considerably but are precisely defined. Coloured, self-adhesive labels ensure that transparency is reliably maintained in the day-to-day laboratory routine.
